Black Mountain - 2026

I made it to the top of Kentucky on April 14th, 2026 as part of a 5 highpointer excursion through the Apalacchia/Blue Ridge area. At 4,145, Black mountain is Kentucky's highest point and the United State's 27th highest point. This area of Kentucky is naturally beautiful, although the ramications of a dead mining business kind of plague the area. For a state high point, the top of Black Mountain is rather dismal and disappointing featuring only a plaque surrounded by abandonened radio infrastructure.
