Mount Sunflower - 2025

Kansas' Highest Point

On July 10th, 2025, I made a memorable detour during my cross-country move from Utah back to Indiana, stopping to visit Mount Sunflower, Kansas's highest point at 4,039 feet. Standing in the middle of a vast wheat field on the Colorado border, the modest summit marked by a sunflower sculpture and simple monument felt worlds away from the dramatic peaks I'd left behind in Utah, yet it had its own understated prairie charm. The endless horizon and gentle rolling landscape reminded me I was truly in America's heartland now. Earlier that same day, I'd also checked off Panorama Point in Nebraska, making it a productive highpointing adventure as I wound my way eastward through the Great Plains toward home in Indiana.
